Reading and Leeds Lineup 2020 + my thoughts

At 9am this morning, the Reading and Leeds first lineup announcement was released. As far as lineups go, this one is a pretty big deal, and this year was no different. Of course, we already had one headliner confirmed, but this only created more nerves amongst Reading and Leeds fans (something we'll touch on more later). So, without further ado, here's the official lineup poster and my views on it.

For this post, I will be using the Leeds Poster, but be sure to check out the Reading version on the website!

Let's start with a few of the acts that got me excited.

FRIDAY
Firstly, The Hunna, a band I've had the pleasure of seeing once before at Fib in 2019. I'd never really been a fan before, but encouragement from a friend made me decide to go and check them out. They put on a great show, and what's more I enjoyed myself without knowing any of the songs. For me, these guys are a very welcome addition to any festival lineup!
Courteeners, an act I have always wanted to see, but as of yet, never had the chance. I enjoy a few of their songs, and have heard their live performances are thouroughly enjoyable. I've deffinately got to add, that it's cliché, but not nineteen forever better be on that setlist!
Rage Against The Machine, a band I must admit, I'm not too familiar with, but excitment toward this band has been felt throughout most festival announcement rumours this summer. A headline spot and Reading and Leeds is a pretty big deal, so they could be worth checking out, whether you're a fan or not.

SATURDAY
Dermot Kennedy is a guy making some scenes recently. Outnumbered has been massive on radio, and he recently announced a headline spot at Belsonic Festival to a crowd of 15,000. Although he's not on mainstage, the radio 1 stage is a great starting point and has been for many of those who make main stage status. Excited to see this guy grow, and hopefully his spot a Reading and Leeds will help implement this.
Sam Fender, probaby one of my favourite male artists around at the moment. His album topped the charts, and holds some instantly recognisable and catchy tunes. This is another artist, I imagine, will be on main stage soon enough, and one who  deffinately takes a welcome place on the radio 1 stage.
I'm sure plenty of attendees will be joyous about Mabels place on Main stage. Plenty of recognisable songs to get people in the spirit, and a nice break from a predominantly indie, rock lineup.
I may be bias, but I am excited about Two Door Cinema Club. A band from my home country, and one who always provide great live performances. Plenty of known songs, great for festival atmosphere, but also new songs that will please loyal fans. They've been announced at a few festivals this coming summer, and so make a great addition to this lineup.
I see Migos in the lineup, which I am sure excited many. However, I've not got too much to say about this one as I've not been much of a fan. I will say with the main headliner this day, they will deffiantly put people in the spirit.
That headliner is Stomzy. Its unknown yet if he's headlining solo, or someone will be added along the way to join him. However, I imagine given he headlined Glastonbury last year to rave reviews, he could deffinately hold his own. Once again he has two great albums with plenty of festival ready tunes for fans to join in with.

SUNDAY
Rex Orange County, a guy who's been around a while but is making waves more often over in the UK. Plenty of people will be happy with this one, and is something to chill out to given the high levels of energy a festival requires. A set like his is deffianatley needed with the constant commotion.
Where has Aitch not been this year. He's able to hold his own with his tracks, but also has plenty of well known features that will get people going. He's also someone being announced for a few festivals this summer, and seeing him on main stage is exciting for his fans.
Gerry Cinnamon, for me this is the highlight of the lineup. A guy I've had the pleasure of seeing multiple times before. It doesn't matter if you don't know his songs, or if you know ever word off by heart, his shows are some of the most buzzing experiences I've ever had. Each time I've seen him it's been a different experience, and as long as you've got a drink in hand and a few mates, I know you'll love it too. With a new album on the way, his set is sure to get many people excited, and to be honest, I'd love to see a a Gerry headline slot someday.
Finally, we have our Sunday main headliner, Liam Gallagher. He was announced at the end of last year, and some people were slightly worried a lacking lineup would follow suit. I must admit, I myself felt that way. However, after seeing the lineup this morning, any worry faded. It's not that I don't love Liam, I just wondered why he was announced as early as he was. He has plenty of his own great songs, and a great new album Why me? Why not. The fact he's one part of Oasis, or as he would put it, he is Oasis, helps to understand why he was chosen for this spot. Not only has be been successful on his own, but has a repertoire of Oasis songs he can add into his set. So even if you're not a mad fan of his, you're guaranteed to get some good hold hands in the air sing-along moments. All in all, a great headline addition, and closing the festival in Leeds is a great shout, thinking of the weekend you've just had with your mates, swaying along to *finger crossed* Live forever or Champagne supernova. Absolute Bliss!

So there you have it, the 2020 Reading and Leeds Lineup (so far anyway), and a few of the acts I'm excited about, plus the weekend headliners. If you're going have a good one! If not, there's always next year!

Thanks for reading 🏕️
